Summary
Anna Lisa Ahlers is a sinologist and political scientist, and Professor II of China Studies at the Department of Culture, Religion, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Oslo. She is also the full-time head of the Lise Meitner Research Group “China in the Global System of Science” at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science (MPIWG) in Berlin.
Her research spans the Chinese political system, with a particular focus on local governance in diverse regions and modern forms of autocracy in a comparative perspective.
Her current projects examine the interaction between authoritarian and democratic regimes and science, the development of science policy in the People’s Republic of China, and China’s global scientific ambitions in the context of its evolving foreign relations. Anna teaches Master's and PhD courses at the University of Oslo.
