Summary

Marc Lanteigne is a specialist on the politics and foreign policy of China and East Asia (Japan, South Korea, Taiwan) and Oceania / Pacific Islands, as well as the Polar Regions. His teaching focuses on materialist and critical approaches to international relations, Asia schools of IR, and contemporary economic security. His projects regarding China have encompassed economic diplomacy (Belt and Road), non-traditional security strategies, discourse power, and cross-Strait relations, as well as Chinese approaches to weaponised interdependence. Within Arctic / Polar studies, he is researching problems of institution-building and the roles of non-Arctic states including China, Japan, and the BRICS+, is active in northern Track II initiatives in Asia and Europe, and edits the Arctic politics news service Over the Circle.
